The newest condominium towers in the Vancouver area are here.
The condominiums are designed to be affordable, high-rise towers that could provide the city with a “low-rise luxury” neighbourhood.
But the new condominium developments have been plagued with problems.
Now, one condo developer has come up with a solution: a low-rise condominium that will be the first condominium in the province to offer residents a low rent.
“It’s really been an amazing experience,” said owner and real estate developer Robert Smith.
“It’s just been a long time coming.
I think the whole idea behind it is to build a place that can be affordable for people who live in Vancouver.”
The building on Burrard Street, just north of Granville Island, has the lowest floor in the city.
The first floor, where there are no amenities, is about $1,000 a month.
Smith said he had no idea it would become such a big deal.
“There were a couple of different ideas out there, but there was no other option at that time,” he said.
“So I just decided that we should try something different.”
The condos are about 100 metres away from the old Vauxhall headquarters, which was demolished to make way for a shopping centre.
The condo building is located in the shadow of the former Canadian Tire headquarters, a building that closed in 2016.
The first condo has a ground floor that has been converted into a fitness centre and an apartment.
A second condo has been completed.
Smith says the project has attracted about 20 tenants, including an international film festival.
He said he doesn’t think the condos are too high-end, because they don’t have the kind of amenities that people might want.
“They don’t include kitchens, they don [have] elevators, they have an outside bathtub,” he explained.

He added that he has also created a community advisory board to look at what kinds of things people can do to support the development.
Smith says he is excited about his plan and that the area is looking to the future.
“It looks like the whole region is kind of ready to embrace condominium development,” he concluded.
“I think it’s a fantastic development.”
